We are pleased to bring you the Deed of Settlement negotiated by your mandated representatives with the Crown. The Deed of Settlement provides for significant inter-generational financial, commercial and cultural opportunities and will settle the historical Treaty of Waitangi grievances of Ngāti Kuia.

Notice is hereby given for the ratification process of the proposed Deed of Settlement for Ngāti Kuia. Whether to accept the Ngati Kuia Deed of Settlement, Te Whakatau, will be decided by postal or electronic vote.

Voting papers will be sent to all adult registered members of Te Runanga o Ngāti Kuia. Voting papers must be received by post or electronically no later than 12pm Friday 8 October 2010

DRAFT AQUACULTURE DEED OF SETTLEMENT
On 13 October 2008, the iwi of Te Wai Pounamu (along with the Hauraki Maori Trust Board), signed an Agreement in Principle with the Crown to satisfy the Crown’s “pre-commencement” space obligations under the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act 2004 (MCACSA). The MCACSA obliges the Crown to provide iwi with the equivalent of 20% of all aquaculture space created between 21 September 1992 and 31 December 2004 (“pre-commencement space”).
